February Round Up

I'm finishing this month on a rather big high, it has been yet another fabulous month for Lily Ann Loves having gained even more followers and readers with my bloglovin' followers now sitting at a rather impressive 360 followers, not bad for two months work! So thank you once again to my lovely followers. It's also been a wonderful month for myself as I've just secured a years Marketing undergraduate placement, anyone who has ever applied for one of these placements will know how much work it is to get one so I am over the moon!

My favourite things from this month have firstly been my new found love for baking. Ok maybe 'love' is a bit strong, I'm not quite ready for that commitment with baking yet, but I have been overwhelmed with responses from you beauts about how much you have loved my baking posts so watch out for more reasonably edible looking posts coming your way. Check out my current ones here and here.

My next favourite thing this month is my new found love (sorry baking this one has beaten you) which is in the form of Lancome Advanced genifique serum. I can't rave about this product enough it's the best. If you don't believe me read my post about it here.

Finally is my favourite purchase from this month, courtesy of mummy Rutherford, my Emma Bridgewater Pug Mug. It is so cute, apparently it is my 'substitute' for not being allowed a real pug but we shall see about that! Have a look at my review with link to Emma Bridgewaters website here.

Hope you've all had a lovely February! xx

Lancome Advanced Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate Serum

For any of my Instagram followers (follow me here) you would have seen the other day that I vowed that Lancome Advanced Genifique is my holy grail of skin care and boy am I telling the truth. I am so in love with this product. I have never used a product that has given me such amazing results as this.

I brought Lancome Genifique after it was recommended to me after when I was having my usual moan about dull winter skin. I hummed and hawed about it for a few weeks because £56 for 30ml was going to put a big dent in my student bank account but after reading countless raving reviews about it, I bit the bullet. I've been using it every morning and night after cleansing my skin and before using my La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo. The serum is light but acts amazingly as a moisturiser without being heavy or oily on the skin. Not only does it works amazing as a moisturiser it also makes a really great primer for those rushed make up routine days and I think it definitely keeps my make up in place for longer.

Not only has it had these short term benefits i've noticed a amazing change in my skin. As I have mentioned previously I've always suffered without acne but since using this i've definitely noticed a decrease in breakouts. My skins texture is all over much more smooth, particularly in areas where I have got acne scaring. I still haven't got amazing flawless skin but it's made a massive change which has been noticed by pretty much all of my friends and family.

I really can't recommend this product enough, this is the first serum i've ever tried but I have been well and truly wowed. Hello gorgeous skin!

Have you tried Lancome Advanced Genifique?

Chocolate Chip and Oreo Cookies

Yes I know, another baking post (que jaws dropping to the floor). I don't know if it's because i'm turning twenty in just over two weeks but I am feeling very domesticated and grown up at the moment and for some reason unknown to myself, and man, I baked all by myself and without any guidance (round of applause please). So I thought I would share with you all my creations of chocolate chip and oreo cookies. They are delicious, my favourite things rolled into one, chocolate, oreos and cookies, a-mazing! So if you would like to try these yourself the recipe is below and not to worry they are completely fool proof, I mean if I can bake them, I'm pretty sure anybody can.

Chocolate Chip Oreo Cookies
  • 110g softened butter
  • 85g white sugar
  • 85g brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 150g plain flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 11 broken pieces Oreo Cookies
  • 200g chocolate chips
  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Cream the butter and sugars until well combined. Add the egg and vanilla until mixed well.
  2. Place flour, baking soda and salt into a large bowl, stir to combine. Slowly add dry ingredients to wet ingredients then stir in oreos and chocolate chips until just combined.
  3. With a medium cookie scoop, scoop onto baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes or until cooked, but still soft. Let cool on baking sheet for 3 minutes before transferring to cooling rack.

Four Things I Love From This Week

I've decided to start a weekly feature of 'Four Things I Love From This Week.' It's going to be a round up of four photos from my Instagram account this week every sunday. So this week it consists of:

My Pixie dog helping me out with blogging in the morning
Face of the day selfie with Benefit Lollitint (literally obsessed with this)
An amazing hot chocolate when I was having a day with my mummy and older sister
My new Moschino iPhone case for my new iPhone 5s (eeeeek)

What do you think of my weekly roundup? And remember to follow me on Instagram here xx

Chanel Le Blanc de Chanel

I kept reading about Chanel Le Blanc de Chanel all over the beauty blogmosphere and fell a little bit in love with the sound of it. Que clicking over to Chanel's makeup page and exchanging £31 (gulp), I became the proud owner of Chanel Le Blanc de Chanel.

Since it arrived I have worn it everyday, it's a really great every day primer. Although strictly not a primer as it's described as a 'sheer illuminating base', it is an illuminator designed to be used as a primer. It can also be used on top of foundation to give a highlighted dewy look. I've just started using it like this and it gives a really nice finish to more matte foundations, like the L'oreal true match (read my review here).

I am seriously in love with this product, it's like nothing i've ever really used before. I love the fact it's illuminating but with no trace of glitter or shimmer. It gives a perfect dewy skin finish even to the most tired winter dull skin. It defiantly helps my make up stay in place for that little bit longer as well which is always an added bonus. If you are tempted to try this the only thing you have to be careful with is not applying to much because it completely washes you out. Just the little bit too much under your foundation can leave you looking a bit pasty, especially if you are as pale as myself!

Have you tried Chanel Le Blanc de Chanel before?

The 'What's In My Bag' Post

I've always loved reading other bloggers 'What's in my bag' posts, I think we all love a good nosey into each others bags, so I decided it was high time I did one myself. After throwing away about a thousand receipts I sifted it out to items that don't seem to move from my bag.

I'm always carrying about fifty lip products with but these four are the ones I can't get enough of at the moment. These are my Revlon Colorburst lacquer balm in demure (read my review here), Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Chance, Dior Addict in Diorissme and obviously my trusty pink bubbly Vaseline, an absolute essential with this cold weather.  I always have a perfume in my bag with me, at the moment I've got Jo Malone Vanilla & Anise, courtesy of my mummy's Jo Malone collection. Like perfume, I always have a hand cream floating around my bag, The Body Shop Hemp Hand protector is  my current favourite. It's amazing at sorting out dry hands!

Headphones and a mobile/ iPad charger are items that never leave my bag. I probably use them every day. I seem to always carry my iPad around with me as well, especially on the days I don't take my MacBook to uni.

Car keys to my beloved MINI (I don't walk anywhere), five pounds worth of change at the bottom of my bag, one hundred kirby grips, my student card, Boots card and debit card, dalmatian mittens and lastly one of my most used items my note book. Being a marketing student and blogger I always seem to be coming up with ideas for posts/ assignments at the most impractical of times so my notebook is the most useful item in my handbag.

So now you've had a good nosey into my Ruby Bayswater what random things do you carry around?

Valentines Brownies

If any of my friends are reading this, their jaws are probably on the floor. Yes, I, Lily Rutherford, have baked. To be honest I am even shocked at myself, I did not burn anything or myself (makes a change) and the brownies are not only edible are incredibly yummy, my whole family can vouch for this. Pat on the back for me.

So I thought I'd do another non-beauty related post and this time theme it to Valentines day. Love it or hate it it is upon us in seven days. This is my trial batch of brownies ready to make some next week for the boy. Thought i'd try them on my family first, lucky them. They are actually incredibly easy to make and taste amazing. I then went a bit crazy with the chocolate frosting, pink sprinkles and heart decorations, looking rather effective!

I think baking is a really thoughtful valentines present but it's also great if you're on a bit of a budget. So why don't you try making them for your loved one or your single best friend? If you want the recipe I have used feel free to message/ email/ tweet me and i'll send it to you.

Clinique Chubby Stick VS Revlon Colorburst Balm

Revlon Colorburst were the first drugstore dupe for the famous Clinique chubby stick and now they've launched a new matte and lacquer range. They appear to be the latest drugstore hype so obviously I had to give them a go to see what all the hype was about.

I have been a religious chubby stick user for years and some how through my make up snobbery (don't judge me) the original Revlon Colorburst balms seem to have passed me by. But i'm so glad I have finally discovered them. I picked them up for £7.99 each from Boots, given that the chubby stick is £17 that is a massive saving. The packaging alone is basically identical to the chubby stick, they both wind up from the bottom and they both look like a felt tip pen.

I've always loved the chubby stick because it's not as harsh and noticeable as lipstick, they're much more of a balm. They are so moisturising so they are particularly good for the winter months. I was really pleasantly surprised to find that both Revlon Colorburst matte and lacquer had similar results.  They both had similar properties to balms. They aren't too harsh in colour and they leave a stain behind after they've worn off so you're not constantly having to reapply.

The other thing I love about the chubby stick is that it isn't glossy but it is shiny. I'm really not a fan of any glossy products, they remind me of my fourteen year old self so I try to avoid them (like the plague). This made me slightly skeptical about the Revlon Colorburst lacquer being a bit too glossy but again they were just like the chubby stick, just the perfect balance of shine. The matte range is a great balance of matte and moisturising so you don't need to have the perfect smooth pout to be able to wear it which, for me, is ideal in the winter.

I think I have actually be converted from by beloved chubby stick! I think i'm a little to addicted to give them up completely but I think I'm much more likely to reach and repurchase my Revlon Colorbust balm.

Have you tried the Revlon Colorbust balms yet?

P.S I did take this photo myself, after my parents both said 'You stole that photo off the internet'. Definitely taken by myself :)

Emma Bridgewater Pug Mug

So I know this probably isn't a post any of you lovelies were expecting, it's hardly a beauty product. But I had to share this with you all. My mum is absolutely obsessed with Emma Bridgewater, we have it coming out of our ears in my house so it was hardly a surprise when a massive box of it got delivered the other day. But what I didn't know was my sneaky mummy brought me the pug mug!

Anyone who knows me knows what a massive dog freak I am (we have four lurchers in the Rutherford household) and I'm a little obsessed with pugs. Unfortunately while i'm living with my parents and until i've finished my degree i'm not allowed one :( so mum has compromised with buying me a pug mug instead, thanks mummy!

Have you checked out Emma Bridgewater's website? Her crockery is to die for!
